Taha Aroosa
Founder
Taha is a passionate feminist, abolitionist, anarchist, writer, artist, and activist dedicated to fostering a world where all individuals can thrive shoulder to shoulder, free from oppression. They have embraced a new purpose through their charity, Taha Palm, inspired by their ancestral roots in Occupied Palestine and Pakistan.
Identifying as Gay and Gender Fluid, Taha grew up in a Muslim family and embraces their identity as a Spiritual individual.
Taha survived family violence and persecution in Pakistan due to homophobic post-colonialism, Taha was granted Convention Refugee Status in 2021 and now lives as a settler in Canada.
With a wealth of lived experience, Taha recognizes education as a privilege, using their voice to challenge systemic injustices.
They made history as the elected Bargaining Representative for Egale Canada and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, drafting the first-ever Collective Agreement that includes Gender Affirming Care.
Taha has been a beacon of hope at Rainbow Railroad, where they helped over 6,000 diverse SOGIESC/LGBTQI+ individuals escape danger. They have led urgent crisis response efforts in Uganda, successfully bringing over 400 LGBTQI+ Ugandans to safety in Canada after the passage of draconian anti-homosexuality laws. As part of a Task Force for Afghanistan, Taha played a pivotal role in evacuating nearly 600 LGBTQI+ Afghans, partnering with the Government of Canada to ensure their safety.
Currently, Taha advocates for diverse SOGIESC individuals at the refugee board in Canada. Their impressive background spans major financial institutions and the French embassy in Pakistan, equipping them with a unique perspective in their advocacy.
Outside of their activism, Taha revels in time spent with their chosen and birth families, exploring vintage markets, hosting vibrant brunches, and celebrating all things pink—all while fiercely dedicated to the journey of decolonizing their mind.
